The Survivors

Candle and resin art by Gian Yoo

Blending scent, texture, and color with wedding flowers, beach sand, and family memories. These are the ones that survived.

  • The bear holding a smoothie is the most accurate picture of me on any given afternoon. The crown and the gold are there because I like money, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise.

Self Portrait, Sort Of

Most of my candles were made for someone else. This one is just me. After mom and dad, my first word was bear, and I’ve loved teddy bears ever since, so a bear had to be the center of it. He’s holding a smoothie because that’s the most accurate picture of me on any given afternoon. The crown and the gold are there because I like money, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. The blue is for calm, which I need after checking my bank account. I wrapped it all in a bow like a gift to myself. It’s the one candle I’ll never light.
